Jobs in Chicago
Chicago is considered throughout the world as the financial, business, and cultural capital of the Midwest and an Alpha Global city. Chicago has been rated as having the “most balanced economy in the United States” due in no small part to its high level of diversification and high number of Chicago area jobs. “Additionally, the Chicago metropolitan area recorded the greatest number of new or expanded corporate facilities in the United States for four of the past five years.”
This trend of economic dominance is only reinforced with recent studies putting city as second largest central business district in the U.S. “The city is the headquarters of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (the Seventh District of the Federal Reserve). The city is also home to four major financial and futures exchanges, including the Chicago Stock Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (the "Merc"). Chicago and the surrounding areas also house many major brokerage firms and insurance companies, such as Allstate Corporation and Zürich North America. In addition, despite Chicago commonly being perceived as a rust-belt city, a study indicated that Chicago has the largest high technology and information-technology industry employment in the United States”.
With all these thriving businesses, it is little wonder that Chicago is considered the place to be to find Chicago area jobs. Not only that, but Chicago is also considered to have some of the best companies and employers to work for. In a recent study of American wide companies by Fortune Magazine, three Chicago employers were in the top three: these were:
- Edward Jones
- Container Store
- SAS Institute
Another 2006 study of Chicago area jobs, completed by the National Association for Business Resources, found these to be the best of the best of the Chicago region:
